Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes a little
child like this in my name welcomes me.” Matthew 18:5
Chapin United Methodist Church is
maintaining a safe environment for every child and youth involved in its
program ministry or in events connected with or sponsored by CUMC. In
response to growing public concern over the safety and welfare of young
people, CUMC established a Safe Sanctuaries Policy. We affirm the
right of children and youth to be protected from sexual/emotional/physical
abuse and neglect.
How Will Workers Be Selected?
-
All persons (volunteer and staff) who
work with children and youth will be screened.
-
Volunteers must be actively involved
in the ministries at CUMC before they can work with children/youth.
-
The "two adult" rule - There will
always be two or more adults present at any activity involving
children/youth.
-
Volunteers will be screened in
advance to create a pool of prospective workers who can be called upon
quickly to maintain the "two adult" rule.
-
All staff and volunteers who work
with children/youth will be trained about the Abuse Prevention Policy and
will receive periodic continuing education on this subject.
How Can You Get an
Application?
The Volunteer Application,
Participant Covenant Statement, and Criminal Records Authorization must all
be completed for your Safe Sanctuary training. You can pick up a complete
application at the church office, or you can download a Microsoft Word
version of the necessary documents by clicking the links above.
